BLAZE!

The hot new nightclub in Metropolis, Blaze's, was a popular hangout for the city's youths, including Jimmy Olsen and Jerry White. In fact, Jerry was working for the manager, delivering packages. Jerry didn't realize, however, that the deliveries were going to Intergang...nor that the packages he was delivering were full of drugs!

The Intergang drug runners shot Jerry White and Jimmy Olsen when he tried to help his friend. The boys' souls were taken prisoner by Blaze, a demoness who ruled over a dimension of hell. Superman followed them, and fought Blaze for the return of the boys' souls. Although Superman was successful in saving Jimmy Olsen, young Jerry's soul was taken by Blaze.

Months later, Blaze re-emerged to challenge her brother Satanus for control of Superman's soul. Blaze chose as her instrument Sam Foswell, who had been fired from the Daily Planet and taken a job at Newstime. Appearing to Foswell as an angel, Blaze tricked him into giving her his soul. This gave Blaze a conduit through which she could send her demonic hoards to the Earth.

The Blaze/Satanus war endangered the lives of many of Superman's close friends, as well as hundreds of innocent civilians. Having helped Superman stop her brother, however, Blaze retreated from Metropolis for a time.

After Lex Luthor won the presidential election, Blaze's brother Satanus made a play for the city of Metropolis itself, feeling that a city which supported someone like Luthor was a city of souls ripe for the taking. Blaze stepped in to battle her brother again, this time taking the appearance of a mystic shaman called Night Eagle.
